The energy industry is always changing with advancements in technology, and our energy experts had the opportunity to attend 2 training sessions over the course of the last few months to stay on the cusp of industry innovations.

In Baltimore, MD, the Energy Efficiency Custom Tech Expo was held on April 19th, 2018.  The event highlighted how both energy and money are being saved by utilizing energy-efficient technologies, no matter the type or size of the business. The expo’s venue, the M&T Bank Stadium, is home of the Baltimore Ravens, and it’s also the first outdoor professional sports facility to earn a LEED Gold certification.

A total of 18 sessions were offered at the expo, and all of the speakers were experts in energy efficiency. With topics like “Power System Optimization” to “How to Successfully Position your Project for Energy Efficiency and Incentive Optimization,” our energy team gleaned value-added information from the sessions they attended.

The second learning opportunity was a program held locally in Fayetteville, AR, on May 22nd. Our energy team attended a Building Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning program led by Hoy Bohanon, PE, BEAP, LEED AP.  Bohanon is president of Hoy Bohanon Engineering, PLLC, a firm that works to promote “healthy, sustainable environments and improve energy efficiency with a focus on existing mission-critical buildings.”  Mr. Bohanon, who writes and teaches courses for the ASHRAE Learning Institute and is a recipient of the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award, led the students through the commissioning process, reviewed commissioning protocols, and he also devoted a portion of training time to retro-commissioning for continuous improvements in the usage of energy.
